Through web positioning we can attract more customers to our restaurants and in that way increase sales… we have proven it: it works, and it can be very useful to you.

People who know me know that I always spend a lot of time researching strategies to attract more customers to my restaurants. Over time, that has basically been one of the activities that has allowed me to achieve great results and grow revenue so I can enjoy a better lifestyle in an industry as demanding as the restaurant business.

That is why today I want to talk to you about search engine positioning and my personal experience with it...

Basically, web positioning or search engine positioning is a set of techniques and activities that seek to improve the position of your website in the results of search engines such as Google.

To put it more simply: it is about optimizing your website to have better visibility in the eyes of search engines.

I will be very honest: at first it did not seem extremely beneficial for restaurants, because basically most potential customers (I am talking about averages) do not necessarily use Google to search for a restaurant, but instead tend to prioritize other “restaurant discovery methods” such as recommendations from friends.

But after putting the main search engine positioning strategies recommended by experts to the test, I can tell you that yes… it really can be an extra channel for attracting new customers to a restaurant.

We studied the results after several months of running the search engine optimization project for our restaurants' websites, and indeed, we had positive results.

After cross-referencing the data we usually collect from customers, their opinions and comments, we were able to conclude that the website optimization project was “to blame” for those positive results.

I will summarize the conclusions for you so you can use them as input to execute your own strategy:

Basically, this is what happened:

The number of foreign customers increased at all the restaurants

Basically, most of them were people who were visiting the country and had found us thanks to Google.

We saw an increase in people over 40 visiting our restaurants

It is as if older people with little social activity on the internet tend to lean more toward using search engines to find restaurants.

We noticed an increase in groups of students and friends looking for special promotions to celebrate birthdays

It is clear: on our websites we highlight these promotions, and without a doubt, many of those groups searched for them on Google and found us.

Bookings increased for the event service we offer at 2 of the restaurants

Same thing… we highlight the service on our websites; we do not just mention it as an extra service, but we dedicate an entire page that provides details about it. Because those pages are quite optimized, the ranking in the results is now better, and that is why we have had more bookings.

Without a doubt… it was worth it.

As I said before, it may be that your main type of customer does not use Google to search for restaurants and instead uses recommendations as a starting point to go out to eat, but it is clear that other customer groups do.

So I recommend that you take that into account, and I invite you to research everything related to search engine positioning, because first-hand I can tell you that it works and it can be very useful for increasing the sales and revenue of your restaurant.
